I enjoyed that story, too. The British Interplanetary Society - I get off the train at Vauxhaull station near there every day. When I look out of the window and see its facade, I know it is time to put my book/paper into my bag and head for the doors!
I have published four novels and four books of literary criticism; I'm currently at work on a book called FOR THE LOVE OF BROKEN THINGS: MY FATHER, EDWARD GIBBON AND THE RUINS OF ROME. I teach in the Department of English and Comparative Literature at Columbia University.
The only Clarke I ever read was Rendezvous with Rama, and its sequels, but the first one was one of my favorite books in high school.
