"No one has lived a more useful seven years"

The smell of rubber cement hangs about these pages - I lack a sense of proportion, I am cramming a whole semester's worth of reading into a single day's xeroxed style miscellany in class today - I might dole out some more of these bits and pieces over the next few days, though...

  1. I don't suppose your Compton-Burnett binge has included reading Hilary Spurling's two-volume (!!!) biography? Her life was, if I remember correctly, pretty crazy, and the book is supposed to be good.

  2. The idea of the smell of rubber cement brings back memories of pasting up camera-ready!

  3. Hm. The long riff on "X and Y" in the selection on the right sounds like the long riff on "X and Y" that was ICB's titling career. "Your god and his gifts. Your heritage and its history."

  4. I enjoyed reading the excerpt provided--thanks! And now I am vaguely wanting a "high-featured [not sure what that means, but is sounds good], but simply modelled face." I think I'll pass on the conscious sincerity and quick deep laugh, though, preferring, as I do, to laugh (ironically) in a bell-like way.
