At his blog Weekend Stubble, Paul Collins offers a deeply disturbing account of the massive and little-known public health calamity that followed the widespread use, in the 1920s, of X-rays to remove women's unwanted hair
. The full essay appears in the New Scientist, by subscription only, but what he gives us here is fairly extraordinary... and quite horrifying.
