- My two most recent books are THE EXPLOSIONIST (HarperTeen), the story of a 15-year-old girl growing up in an alternate version of 1930s Edinburgh, one where the legacy of Napoleon's victory a century earlier at Waterloo is a standoff between a totalitarian Federation of European States and a group of independent northern countries called the New Hanseatic League; and BREEDING: A PARTIAL HISTORY OF THE EIGHTEENTH CENTURY (Columbia University Press). I teach in the Department of English and Comparative Literature at Columbia University.

Have you heard their latest album, "The Adventures of Stillborn and Ghosthorse"? Really stellar!
I have not heard it, but on these recs I will definitely get it. I have one of the earlier ones, and heard them open for Antony and the Johnsons at Town Hall a few years ago - v. appealing, though it makes me feel like an extreme homebody that I am not drawn to the bohemian lifestyle?!?

Love them!!!!! Check out Eberstadt's article on them if you haven't already (I realize the link is at the top of the page) I think it's really well written and very interesting
