I encourage you to do it! I got one in San Fran a few years back, and learning to play it is very interesting, you must hold very physically still (not as natural as it may sound) and "play the air" near the machine. That said, you can do the B-movie soundtracks right away! 'Good Vibrations' takes a little longer. ;) -Peggy

Gosh, I have had theremin aspirations myself...but have been to cash strapped to take the plunge...maybe someday!
