I am not at all a collector, really I would prefer to own nothing at all and live in a monastic cell, but it is a long time since I have seen anything that gave me such a pang of collector's desire as this...
I have published four novels and four books of literary criticism; I'm currently at work on a book called FOR THE LOVE OF BROKEN THINGS: MY FATHER, EDWARD GIBBON AND THE RUINS OF ROME. I teach in the Department of English and Comparative Literature at Columbia University.
I want to live in a really big monastic cell with all my stuff. Actually, I kind of do.
ReplyDeleteI'm not an expert, but I'm not sure if a cell filled with all your stuff would qualify as "monastic".
ReplyDeleteGiven that someone actually felt the need to write in to point that out, I guess my comment didn't qualify as a "joke."
ReplyDeleteSorry, Phil!
ReplyDeleteThe fact that I am an idiot should have no bearing on the quality of your joke.
(I was trying to be funny, too)
