I just read a quite good memoir, Susan Shapiro's Lighting Up: How I Stopped Smoking, Drinking, and Everything Else I Loved in Life Except Sex. Not earth-shattering, but funny and well-written and sensible in a Manhattan-dream-world-type way (she loses my sympathy when she describes the constant "call down to the deli at 3am to get candy delivered upstairs" kind of thing...). It's certainly a page-turner.
Two more satisfying addiction memoirs (and no, I have not read the wretched Frey, sounded awful in any case even before it became clear it was mostly made up): Caroline Knapp's Drinking: A Love Story and Augusten Burroughs' Dry.
