Sweetness and light

An interesting and appealingly stubborn/off-putting piece by Ruth Rendell at the Age.

  1. Knowing that you're into horror/the supernatural/fantasy/sci-fi and all other things fantastic and magical, I should bring to your attention that recently, off the Oasakawara (sp?) islands in Japan, scientists managed to capture for the first time ever a live Giant Squid, believed to have inpsired the 17th century myth of the "kraken" blamed for the sinking of simps off the coast of Norway. A small one, to be sure, at only 110 pounds and 12 feet long but they lured it in using a large fishing hook baited with a smaller squid 2200 feet down.
