It's really a shame. I enjoy Goodreads and don't intend to opt out as yet, despite their censorship attempts, but I have to wonder why anyone thinks that on a site powered by comment the intent to stifle reviews of any sort is a good thing.
Addendum: A new book was just published documenting the Goodreads scandal: Off-Topic: The Story of an Internet Revolt. (Ah, the wonders of contemporary publishing!) It is available as a PDF under a creative commons license and can be legally distributed for free. If anyone wishes to have a copy, message me on Facebook or Goodreads and I will send it to you.
I have published four novels and four books of literary criticism; I'm currently at work on a book called FOR THE LOVE OF BROKEN THINGS: MY FATHER, EDWARD GIBBON AND THE RUINS OF ROME. I teach in the Department of English and Comparative Literature at Columbia University.
