"The body is female"

At the Telegraph, Matt Ruff is skeptical about Richard Baer's account of a patient with multiple personality disorder.

  1. The patient is said to have been disturbed by the fact that the character played by Norton in Primal Fear faked his MPD. It's been a while since I've seen the film, but my recollection is that the character was presented as having a genuine split personality - the vicious half knows everything that's going on, while the sweet, vulnerable half knows nothing about the actions of the other. The vicious half jeers at the vulnerable half as if this were a different person. I read a book many years ago (The Faces of Eve, maybe?) in which the person was said to have had three versions: one knew everything about the activities of the other two, while the other two knew only their own slices of the world.
