One comes upon Michael Dummett in the strangest places... I know his phil. of math work quite well, but have also seen stuff he's written about immigration and (very poorly) about language. (These interests are apparently linked, he believes in spelling reform to make English easier for adults to learn.) I like this list of open problems, it is aggressively donnish in its phrasing.
I have published four novels and four books of literary criticism; I'm currently at work on a book called FOR THE LOVE OF BROKEN THINGS: MY FATHER, EDWARD GIBBON AND THE RUINS OF ROME. I teach in the Department of English and Comparative Literature at Columbia University.
