The adjectival style

Rachel Cooke interviews Barbara Taylor Bradford at the Observer Woman. This one gave me a pang, my English grandmother would have liked it: she loved those books. (They were the first ones I ever read, I think, where the heroines all have emerald or violet or turquoise eyes.)

  2. I remember reading an interview with BTB a few years ago in which she confided that the way to keep one's cleaning lady is to take out a subscription to Hello and leave the latest issue lying around somewhere that will ensure she always gets it promptly. Laugh or scream?
