I feel so behind. I just received the Sept. issue two days ago. The mail to me must be slow.
By the way, I loved your piece on Five Flights Up. After reading it I shared it with friends, and then I went out and bought a copy of the book. It's great. It's making me eager to move to the city (more so than usual, I should say -- I'm visiting in a few weeks, and will work on securing a permanent place). I read about five columns each night right before I go to sleep.
No, no, you're not behind, I am just excessively greedy for literary news. The September issue was delayed going out, I just got mine v. recently as well; and the print edn. of this month's hasn't gone out either, but it goes up a bit earlier on the website.
I'm really glad you liked the Five Flights Up piece--in case you couldn't tell, I think that book is a WORK OF TOTAL GENIUS & should get the widest possible audience.
Yes, I also ended up convinced that Five Flights Up is a work of genius--and before I'd even opened the book.
Thanks for the info. I like knowing what's coming up in the mag, but still I only occasionally read the print articles that are pasted beforehand on the website. I'm looking forward to reading this game issue. Especially the piece on jigsaw puzzles -- I used to collect stuff on old jigsaw advertisements. Plus I'm in the middle of writing a piece about bingo.
I have published four novels and four books of literary criticism; I'm currently at work on a book called FOR THE LOVE OF BROKEN THINGS: MY FATHER, EDWARD GIBBON AND THE RUINS OF ROME. I teach in the Department of English and Comparative Literature at Columbia University.
