This is definitely the best one in the bunch, I love the vocho (vw) as we call them back home. I love Billie Holiday and that photograph is beautiful. Cheers!
Too bad there's no picture of Lampedusa and his mutts: Here's what Wendy Lesser wrote in our recent issue:
"Part of what made him monstrous was his intense immersion in literature. He seemed to have read everything, not only in Italian but also in French and English, and to a certain extent in German, Russian, and Spanish. (He and Licy, who had dogs instead of children, spoke to each pet in a different language.)"
I have published four novels and four books of literary criticism; I'm currently at work on a book called FOR THE LOVE OF BROKEN THINGS: MY FATHER, EDWARD GIBBON AND THE RUINS OF ROME. I teach in the Department of English and Comparative Literature at Columbia University.
