The language of cat-monkeys, or Meerkat Manor avant la lettre

It might be that Samuel Taylor Coleridge translated Goethe's Faust into English!

  1. That's a fascinating story.

    Though it comes in the lines from an earlier translation that reviewer Kelly Grovier is denigrating, I really like "the too severe delight of earnest thought."

    And Grovier has a literary biography of Newgate coming out this summer! What a great idea!
